Cloud MYOB on NAS

Cloud MYOB with NAS used to be my favourite topic as it doubles up your file server to be your remote desktop server. It is basically big cost savings. Referring to my previous article: Cloud MYOB with QNAP written in 2018, we were quite confident it will work well and we did deploy for quite a few customers.

Over the last 2 years, Microsoft Windows has released many patches of updates. With those updates, we realised that many users are complaining slow running their MYOB. The Windows with patches now require more than 8GB RAM to perform better. So QNAP lower-end series which runs on 4GB RAM is no longer efficient.

If you still want to use a NAS as MYOB Cloud server, you would need a higher-end series of QNAP with capability of allowing you to upgrade your RAM to at least 32GB as well as allowing you to run Windows on SSD instead of traditional SATA storage drive. With that you should still be able to run your Cloud MYOB with NAS.

What you should take care of when deploying:

  1. Hacking and Ransomware issue
  2. Official license of relevant products

Do remember to back up your solutions offline and online. You can read up on our previous blog Backup your data against RansomOnce you are on cloud, anything can happen. SO BACKUP.

Alternatively, we started our SME ONE series of solution, which includes SME OnCloud to run your MYOB or ABSS, SME Firewall which gives you a secure connection and block off attacks as well as SME NextCloud to backup your MYOB datafiles. We are even able to restore your whole Windows to previous day imagine all within an hour in the event of attack. SME ONE is about paying for services, without worrying about software licensing and hardware.

At AMC, we simplify IT for SMEs so that you can focus on your core business.
